Moving from unit to unit at "Place In The Sun" apartments on 8th street in the 80's was not the most luxurious of beginnings, but Keith did have the beach to occupy his time and a desire for success. Starting at a young age Keith was into extreme sports, driven, striving to be the best he could be. Growing up, his parents didn't have money to spare but shared with him the principle of a borrower being a slave to the lender. From this time on he strived to remain debt free and be financially independent. At 13 years old he started his first business getting bikes from the garbage, refurbishing, and reselling them.  At 15 he started carving tikis. At 17 Keith was making longboard skateboards and selling them to the local surf shops. At 19 he became a Pro-Skateboarder learning the importance of promotion and advertising himself to gain more sponsors. When he turned 20 he became a merchant marine and started his career.

These properties create parking problems, noise complaints and ruin the ability for long term renters to afford a home in Cocoa Beach. Out of the 6500 residential homes there are currently 1106,  short term rentals in Cocoa Beach with only 80 properly registered at a low rate. We can't legally stop them but we could propose a higher yearly registration fee and a fine for not registering on time. if each of these offenders paid $500 a piece per year($500,000), we would be able to pay down our debt, roll back our tax rate, or add the additional police personnel requested by Chief Rosenfield

The Commission just voted to increase the tax millage rate to 6.1+% in hopes of adding more city personnel. Keith would like to reign in new spending  and see a flat line on ou debt chart for at least a year. It is Keith's desire to find creative ways to add revenue without being forced to raise density. City revenue comes from parking fees, fines, other city fees, and property taxes. If we don't stop the city from spending at our current rate, we will have no choice but to compromise to accommodate higher tax based development projects.
